The Beginning

Everything in the beginning is a bit unclear.  The truth slightly affected by a clinical condition known as “Beer Goggles.”  What is known, is that a group of friends came up with an idea for a website dedicated to the culmination of two of the greatest things on earth, beer and hockey.  Here are the events, the best we can remember…

It started with a trip to the bar early in the evening.  From the first bar more followed.  The "Rule Of One Beer" applied to each.  Designed as a way to appear responsible... the rule allows us to drink one beer……. after another.  The Hockey seemed to be following us as we watched the highlights from the weeks games.  At that time it dawned on us that we really loved beer and hockey.

Stumbling from the pub on the way to the 7-11, for some Nachos and possibly a burrito, someone mentioned the internet, most likely having to do with a video clip of slightly less than educational value.  We all thought it was too good to be true, and attention turned to an abandoned shopping cart in a near by alley.  After several rides and crashes later, we arrived at our destination, everyone’s groove still intact.  That it is where it came to us again.  When we checked the name in the registry we found availability.

The rest of what is to come has happened slowly, but the pace is picking up quickly.   We have put together everything you see and hear now.  We look forward to the challenges of our passions and appreciate your input.  Let us know what you think, and your ideas from your hazy escapades by emailing Beer@BeerAndHockey.com.

-BOUPS-

(Aaron Bouplon)

Co-Founder,

Head Programmer

Born in Glen's Falls, New York, Aaron grew up in Marinette, Wisconsin, where the only thing colder than their ice rinks is their beer, and cheese curds are the snack of choice. A tall, goofy kid, he often struggled with intimacy issues and boils on his buttocks, but that was ok, he new how to lance them and keep them from getting too infected. Ok... back to the bio. Boups was a runner and a hockey player in high school, but body-type choices dictated that he chose a sport... running it was... why not pick the sport that doesn't pay well. Boups graduated from Dartmouth College in 1995, where he was an NCAA Division 1 distance runner. Having played hockey from the time he could walk, Aaron resumed playing avidly when he retired from professional running. While center is his position of choice and he is alright at that, he is a rotten defensemen, and a novice goalie. Having gone to the college that spawned "Animal House," Aaron is indeed a beer aficionado. He currently resides in Boulder, Colorado, coaches high school hockey, and plays in several leagues. The boil problem is better.

-Justin Komhyr-

Lazy Person and

Not Very Productive Web Manager

Born and raised in Boulder, Colorado, Justin graduated from Metro State a few years back. Currently, he lives in Denver where he personally checks out every new night spot that opens, and re-checks the old ones to make sure that they are up to BeerAndHockey.com standards.. Justin gets out onto the ice whenever he can. He generally plays the challenging position of sliding across the ice on his ass, but occasionally gets to play on his feet.

-Jodi Wright-

Canadian Correspondent

Jodi spent two years in Boulder, Colorado until she missed the taste of Canadian beer and the higher alcohol content so much, she moved back to her hometown of Valley East, Ontario (a suburb of Sudbury). She currently works as a fitness instructor at gym for women and at a Greek restaurant. Jodi played for the Colorado Synergy of the WACH league and hopes to return to the team once she finds some poor American sucker to marry her so she can move back to Boulder. She still hopes to play for the Edmonton Oilers one day alongside Ryan  Smyth where they will bodycheck happily ever after.

Look at him! He knows his beer and hockey. These days, a little pre-occupied for the good things in life. We still love him though!

-Derek West-

Cool Guy, Stallion

Currently a high powered lawyer in a fancy Denver firm, Derek still reminisces about the days of old, when chugging beers for speed in the basement of a Dartmouth fraternity was common place and not having a beer gut was the norm. Although a bit out of practice, Derek could still beat you in a chugging contest! BeerAndHockey.com will put money on it... his intelligence is still, though, his greatest attribute.
